Bondo Constituency
According to the national population census of 2009, Bondo constituency has a total population of 197,883 people. This is composed of 95,962 males and 10,1917 females and 4 intersex. The number of households totals to 51,362 with an average occupancy of 3.8.
The constituency is cosmopolitan in nature which is largely contributed by the presence of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of science and technology right at the centre of Bondo town. However, the dominant tribe is Luo.
The constituency is semi-arid, food deficient and relies on food imported from other counties. However, in the reverse, the constituency has a huge economic potential. It is surrounded with permanent fresh water mass.It has a shoreline of over 200 km touching on Lake Victoria to the south and west and a permanent River Yala to its north and east. Lake Victoria provides good opportunity for fish farming through the use of modern technology to support aquaculture.
Social and Physical infrastructure is fairly well developed with major tarmac roads linking the constituency to other regions. Notable roads include the Usenge –Bondo-Kisumu road and Misori – Bondo- SIAYA-Rang’ala road, which provides easy connectivity and market opportunities out of the constituency. In addition, the constituency has well improved rural access roads
The constituency has training and education institutions that include Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University Of science and Technology(Jooust),Technical and vocational training institutions notably Bondo Technical and Vocational Training College,St.Joseph Special technical institute, Bondo TTI,Bondo KMTC and a number of village polytecnics.The Constituency also boasts of 140 primary schools and 40 secondary schools.
There is high potential for tourism with notable sites being Got Ramogi heritage site, lake scenic sites and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum. The constituency also holds an annual cultural festival known as Migwena festivals.
Its however important to note that the constituency is relatively peaceful interms of security.
